Tube flies are easy when you use the right equipment.....

On a recent trip to Lowe's building supply, I found a great source for tube fly tubing. Located on the plumbing isle next to the sink plumbing supplies I found Watts Polyethylene tubing. It has an outside diameter of 1/4 inch and an inside diameter of .170 inch. With a cost of less than $3.00 for 25 feet, it was a bargain. This material is tough yet easy to use. Thread and material are easy to apply and with a coat of cement, they do not slide around the tubing. The large tube diameter is great for weighting the tube before tying material on it. I use this tubing material with my 1/8 inch Renzetti tube fly vise mandrel and it works fine. With all tube flies, I have a tendency to wrap the thread to tight and I cannot get the tube off the mandrel but this material slides off easy and I can barely apply enough pressure to fuse it to the mandrel. If tie tube flies, give this a try. What do you have to lose?
