You always need to know
the way back home.....
Unlike
Davy Crockett I have been lost, and it is no fun. If you have ever had that fear
of being lost and all the emotion that goes with it, you know the feeling. For
those of you that have never been lost, congratulations. By being a guide,
people rely on me to take them places to fish or hunt and then get them back to
the place where we began our journey. As with all things
confidence allays fear and knowing where you are at bolsters your confidence.
For me, I got enough things on my mind and being lost should never enter into the picture.
I rely on a Lowrance Global Map 12 for most everything I do outside. This is a
neat tool that really impresses people and makes them feel at ease about some of
the places I frequent. On a recent duck hunt with a guide (who has 10+ years of
experience on this lake) we got "disoriented", not a good feeling.
With a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) unit I know where I am going and how to get there (if I have created a
plot trail). GPS units range from $100 and up and it is just good insurance. As
I always say "I may not need it but when I do, I will give any amount
of money to have it". You decide.......
